MÔ TẢ CHI TIẾT

Setup

First things first. Before you proceed with adjusting the theme options for your liking, make sure you’ve cleared out the basics.

Front page settings

Higo was designed to display your latest blog posts on the front page. So go to Settings →

Reading and set option Front page displays to Your latest posts . Sure, you can also have a static front page, if you want.

Permalinks

You don’t want your permalinks structure to be ugly, right? Navigate to Settings →

Permalinks and make sure to change the structure to anything but Default. Post name is recommended.

Menus

Handy navigation is essential for any site. If you’re not familiar how it works in WordPress check the Codex first. Go to Appearance → Menus and create a menu. Add all desired pages to this menu and save it. Assign it with one of the menu locations. Higo has 5 menu locations in total:

Header Menu

Off-canvas Menu One Off-canvas Menu Two Footer Menu One Footer Menu Two

Header Menu

This is your primary navigation. It supports hover/touch drop-downs and can be up to 3 levels depth.

In case if you want to create a dropdown with a parent that is not supposed to lead anywhere, just create a custom link and put # instead of the URL.

On smaller screens, header menu is hidden. Only off-canvas navigation remain visible.

Off-canvas menu one & two

You can have 2 menus in the off-canvas section. First one is for primary navigation. It's vertical and supports click drop-downs and can be up to 3 levels depth. The second off- canvas menu is designed for social links. It's horizontal and can't have any sub-menus.

Footer menu one & two

You can have 2 menus in the footer of the site. Both horizontal and can't have any sub- menus. Both can have social icons in them.

Social icons in menus

In Higo you have the option to display social media links in Off-canvas Menu Two, Footer Menu One and Footer Menu Two. The theme will recognize the network by URL and an appropriate icon will be used. The following icons are supported:

rss;  behance; bloglovin; codepen; deviantart; digg; dribbble; facebook; flickr; foursquare; github; instagram; linkedin; livejournal; envelope; medium; pinterest; google plus; reddit; slideshare; snapchat; soundcloud; spotify; stumbleupon;

tumblr; twitch; twitter; vimeo; vk; yelp;

youtube.

Plugins

Absolutely no plugins are required for the theme to work. However, there are few plugins that we recommend to use:

Force Regenerate Thumbnails

Every theme uses it’s own thumbnail sizes. Every time you switch the theme you need to regenerate existing images and get rid off those that are no longer in use. So if you are installing Higo on the site with existing content, this plugin is for you. Once it’s installed, head to  Tools  →  Force Regenerate Thumbnails  and click  Regenerate All Thumbnails . It may take a while, depending on the size of your library. Get some coffee while it's working.

Contact Form 7

Famous plugin for creating contact forms. You probably won't pass this by.

SVG support

This plugin will allow you to upload SVG files to your media library. We highly recommend to use SVG logo for your site.

MailChimp for WordPress

Should you want to have a newsletter signup form on your site, this plugin is for you. Keep in mind that you'll need a free MailChimp account for that.

One Click Demo Import

Import demo content in just one click. You site will have the exact same content and settings as the live demo.

Installing plugins

When you install the theme you'll see a notice at the top of the admin area saying that recommended plugins can be installed. Follow all the steps. Or dismiss the notice. Install and activate the plugins you need. Just press on the Begin installing plugins or Begin

activating plugins if you've already installed any of them. You'll see a list of plugins needed or recommended to install. You can select and install all at once. After they are installed go ahead and activate them. That's it, you're done with the plugins.

Child theme

Should you want to make some core changes to the theme (for whatever reason) or add some sweet new features, a child theme is the best way to do just that. Shortly, because all your adjustments and additions to the theme will be safe when parent theme get updated. Read about child themes in the Codex. You'll find higo-child.zip  file in your download. It's a simple starter template for your future theme based on Higo. Install it normally as any other theme.

Templates

Higo supports several post/page templates. You can select a template on the post/page edit screen, in the Post Attributes box.

Default Template

All pages and posts are displayed with a sidebar when the Default template is in use. If the sidebar has no widgets, Full width template will be used.

No Sidebar Full Width Template

This template is handy when you want to disable sidebar only on a particular page. The content will take full width - 1110px.

No Sidebar Narrow Width Template

Again, no sidebar will be displayed with this template. But the content will be 750px width and centered. However, with this template, all galleries and attachments that have no alignment will expand to full width - 1110px.

Widgets

If you’re not familiar with WordPress widgets head to the Codex first.

Widget areas

Higo has 3 widgets areas in total:

Blog - Displayed on page with latest posts; Single Page - Displayed on all single pages; Single Post - Displayed on all single posts.

Each of this sidebar areas will be displayed if it has at least one widget inside. Simple as that. But you can override that for the blog and single page/post sidebars. Blog sidebar can be turned off from the theme customizer. As for the singular pages/posts - there is a template dropdown in the post/page edit screen. Select No Sidebar Full Width or  No Sidebar Narrow Width template to disable sidebar for this particular post/page. Learn more about templates here.

Custom Widgets

Higo comes with 2 custom widgets:

Higo Instagram Widget. Showcase your latest Instagram pictures in the sidebar. Simply insert your username and number of posts to show.

Higo Recent Posts Widget. Go beyond what standard WordPress Recent Posts Widget can offer. In Higo Recent Posts Widget you have way more options. You can order posts by date or comments; display posts only from particular category or even display posts by ids.

Customizer

The Customizer is a WordPress's built-in framework for live-previewing any change to your WordPress site. You can customize various aspects of the theme and the site, from colors and layouts to widgets, menus, and more. Apart the standard options that present in the customizer there are some options added by the Higo theme.

You can try the Customizer and it's options without even activating the theme. Just install the theme, go to Appearance → Themes and click Live preview button.

If the theme is already activated, you can open the Customizer by going to Appearance →

  Customize .

Customizer options

All custom theme options are pretty self-explanatory. One thing that is worth mentioning specifically is Typography.

Typography

For the sakes of simplicity we decided not to include any typography fields. Simply because in most cases users end up adding additional CSS styles to adjust typography to their liking. There're so many things you can tweak about fonts. So in Higo everything that is related to changing font family, size, weight, etc. is done via  Additional CSS  section in the Customizer. That makes things simpler, faster and more easy to use.

Let's say you want to change the font to one the Google Web Fonts. First you need to select your fonts. Once you pick your fonts and customized them, from the Embed Font section select @IMPORT option.

Next you just copy the code to the Additional CSS section in the Customizer like this:

If you want to add additional fonts, for example for the headings, you can select multiple fonts in the Google Web Fonts panel and your code would look something like this:

Translation

Higo is ready for translation. You can find a .pot file in the languages folder in the root of the theme. We recommend you to use Poedit for all your WordPress translations. More detailed info can be found in Translator’s Handbook, there is even a guide for translations with Poedit.
